Spring 2025: Canada names the 5

It’s been a busy few months since travelling to Zagreb in December. In addition to weekly spars and assignments, the National Team attended two other major international events this season.

Singapore, IDW

During February, the development team went to Singapore to participate in their International Debate Weekend (IDW). In addition to meeting lots of amazing WSDC alumni and getting excellent feedback during rounds, the team enjoyed a lively show round against Team Singapore.

Harvard WSDC

Canada also attended the annual Harvard World Schools Invitational tournament in Cambridge this April. Teams navigated the busy pathways of Harvard in the never-ending rain, frantically prepared cases, and despite there being almost 300 speakers this year, we managed to once again face each other through sheer luck of the draw. Our teams ended on 5:0 and 4:1, breaking 1st and 4th, and proceeded all the way to Semi-finals, losing in a fierce debate with Team Mexico. Congratulations to:

  • Semi-finalists, breaking 4th – Canada Louis Riel: Jinjou Wang (3rd speaker), Kelvin Fan (2nd speaker), Ann Wang (7th speaker), Sarah Li (8th speaker), Lucas Le (17th speaker)
  • Octo-finalists, breaking 1st – Canada Tecumseh: Grace Liu (23rd speaker), Hannah Li (20th speaker), Hannah Liu (20th speaker), Jade Wang (15th speaker)
