2024-2025 Panama WSDC

2023-2024 Serbia WSDC

Barry Gu, Isabelle Monsman, Jinjou Wang (top speaker), Leo Zhu (4th speaker), and Michelle Liu (3rd speaker) helped Canada reach Double-Octo Finals at WSDC 2024 and the top speaker award for a second year in a row.

2022-2023 Vietnam WSDC

Angela Lu, Annushka Agarwal (top speaker), Maria, Xu, Rally Lin (10th speaker), and Tannush Agarwal brought Canada all the way to the finals of WSDC, losing on a 7:4 split to Team USA, and secured our first top speaker award at WSDC.

2020-2021 Macau WSDC (online)
Angie Lei, Gaby Lin (18th speaker), Isaac Cape (20th speaker), Matthew Anzarouth (2nd speaker), and Vincent Gao (9th speaker) are the 2021 WSDC champions after a final against Hong Kong. Back-to-back champions, and 3rd year in a row in the finals for Team Canada.

2019-2020 Mexico WSDC (online)

Angela Li (5th speaker), Matt Anzarouth (3rd speaker), Matt Farrell, Max Rosen (6th speaker), and Reana Yan (8th speaker) are the 2020 WSDC champions after a final against Sri Lanka.

2018-2019 Thailand WSDC

Angela Li (ON), Matthew Farrel (NS), Max Rosen (ON), Naomi Panovka (ON), and Vivian Zhang (BC) made it to finals, losing to Team India.

2017-2018 Croatia WSDC

Adythia Chakravarthy (ON), Anwyn Diakuw (SK), Ashley Phord-Toy (BC), Naomi Panovka (ON), and Andrew Yun (BC) were Octo-finalists after a loss to Team Singapore, with four of the five members finishing in the top 20 speakers.

2016-2017 Indonesia WSDC

Dasha Metropolitansky (ON), Martin Duffy (ON), Armin Safavi (ON), Kimathi Muiruri (ON), and Anna Yang (BC) finished as Quarter-Finalists on a 3:2 decision. cAislin Flynn (Team Canada 2012), Iqbal Kassam (Team Canada 2009, 2010), and Liz Stratton were our coaches. Alternates at WSDC 2017 were Andrew Yun (BC) and Alykhan Jetha (ON).
2015-2016 Germany WSDC

Alex Wu (ON), Dasha Metropolitansky (ON), Luciano Kwon (BC), Naz Gocek (ON), and Rory Flynn (NS) made it to finals, losing to Team England. Back-to-back finals for Team Canada. Thanks to our coach: Aislin Flynn (Team Canada 2012) with support from Veenu Goswami (Team Canada 2010)
2014-2015 Singapore WSDC
Team Canada 2015 was made up of five debaters and two alternates from across Canada. They competed at the 2015 World Schools Debating Championships held from July 27th – August 7th in Singapore. Team members were Rory Flynn (NS), Peter Koczanski (MB), Swarochish Goswami (AB), Lloyd Lyall (BC) and Jason Xiao (SK). The alternates were Dasha Metropoltansky (ON) and Tatiana Kurschner (BC). Canada came in second to Singapore but not without a great performance. This team was coached by Veenu Goswami (Team Canada 2010), assisted by Aislin Flynn (Team Canada 2012).
2013-2014 Thailand WSDC
Team Canada 2014 was made up of five debaters and three alternates from across Canada: Nasra Moumin (SK), Rory Flynn (NS), Elliot Kaufmann (ON), Graeme Climie (AB) and Behbod Negahban (BC). The alternates, Peter Koczanski (MB), Lloyd Lyall (BC) and Swarochish Goswami (AB) also attended the WSDC. After winning Pan Americans 2013 (Bermuda), EurOpens 2014 (Germany) and Pan Americans 2014 (Mexico), the team had an outstanding WSDC, breaking 4th after preliminary rounds and advancing to the semi-finals before being defeated by South Africa. The team was coached by Veenu Goswami (Team Canada 2010) and Liana Palko.
2012-2013 Turkey WSDC

Anisah Mahomed (ON; team captain), Jessica Dorfmann (BC), Julia Milden (BC), Nasra Moumin (SK), Oliver Bjornsson (NS) with alternate Alessandra Harkness (BC) advanced to a Quarter-Final finish before being knocked out by Ireland on a razor-thin 4:3 decision. The team was coached by Elisa Frank and Josh Judah.
2011-2012 South Africa WSDC
Team Canada 2012 were octo-finalists at the 2012 World Schools Debating Championships in Cape Town, South Africa. Its five competing members were Debi Ogunrinde, Nik Carverhill, Nic Martin, Jessica Dorfmann, and Neil MacIsaac, and the alternates are Aislin Flynn and Anisah Mahomed. Team Canada 2012 was coached by Josh Judah and Elisa Frank
2010-2011 Scotland WSDC
Team Canada 2010: Doha, QatarTeam Canada 2011 were quarter-finalists at the 2011 WSDC in Dundee, Scotland, knocking out Pakistan in the octo-finals before losing to eventual winners Singapore. Competing members were Debi Ogunrinde, Nic Martin, Liz Stratton, Sam Rappaport and Ashley Bowron, with alternate Nik Carverhill. The team was coached by Tracey Lee
2009-2010 Qatar WSDC
Team Canada 2010 was the champion of the World Schools Debating Championships 2010 in Doha, Qatar! Coached by Tracey Lee, the team’s competing members were Iqbal Kassam, Keenan MacNeal, Veenu Goswami, Jonathan Carson and Lyle Dobbin, though the whole 9-member team attended the tournament.
2008-2009 Greece WSDC
Our team of Tim Abdulla (MB), Pam Cohen (ON), Sam Greene (NFLD), Iqbal Kassam (BC) and Daniel Lewis (NS), under the leadership of coach Tracey Lee, acquitted themselves extremely well at the 2009 WSDC tournament in Athens. At the end of the eight preliminary rounds we were standing in 6th position, having had only one loss and seven wins. The octo-final presented no problems but in the quarter finals we were up against the only team who had beaten us during the preliminary rounds. Alas, we were not to get our revenge and went down to an excellent team who finally won the entire tournament. We remained in 6th position but were delighted that all five of our speakers finished in the top 50, with Iqbal Kassam in the top 10.
2007-2008 USA WSDC

Under the direction of coach Martin Poirier, the team finished the preliminary rounds in fourth place out of 39 countries, and after falling to Scotland in the quarter finals, placed sixth. The team consisted of Sam Greene (NFLD), Daniel Lewis (NS), Tim Abdulla (MB), Kees de Ridder (AB) and David Miko (AB).
2006-2007 Korea WSDC
Team Canada attending the WSDC in Seoul included: Andrew Rusk (captain), Sean Stefaniak, Sean Barron, Kirsten Lundell-Smith and Caroline Ness. The team ended the preliminary rounds with a 6-2 record and defeated Slovenia (octos) and South Africa (quarters) before being ousted by Singapore in the semi-finals. They placed 4th overall at that Worlds, coached by Martin Poirier. The tournament was also a blast for the debaters. Some of the highlights were visiting the De-Militarized Zone, peering over the border into North Korea and climbing the Seoul Tower in Korea.
2005-2006 Wales WSDC

This team was selected following the 2005 National Seminar in Saskatoon and broke to semi-finals in Cardiff, Wales. Team members included: Christine Wadsworth (ON), Sheldon McCormick (NS), Madeleine Ballard (QC), Blair MacDonald (NS) and Michael Beeler (NS). The 2006 team was coached by Harold Kyte
